The story
From a spare room to the studio.
Every broadcaster has an origin. Mine starts with Jamaican parents, a stack of Friday new releases, and a sound system built from borrowed plywood.
Bottle parties & the first gig
Born to Jamaican parents who loved nothing better than to celebrate life as often as possible — most of the time in the form of a "bottle party", all the rage back in the day. My senior brother Jimmy and I were given the task of keeping everyone dancing. That was my first DJ gig. Dad was an avid music collector, often coming home on a Friday evening with a handful of the latest new releases from a wide range of genres.
Lord Jarotone Sound
As far back as I can remember I have always had a love for music, and began collecting just like my dad as soon as I started earning money. I would often overspend on buying records and end up borrowing from the bank of Mum & Dad before the week was up. Going to clubs and running sound systems kept me and my sound crew — Lord Jarotone Sound — out of trouble. Weekends were spent building speaker boxes from borrowed sheets of plywood. It was always about the love of music, and who had the baddest, heaviest or loudest sound system in the dance hall.
The university of music
Over the years I teamed up with various sound systems — my university of music school. My love of radio began with the evening programme of the late great John Peel, whose varied collection captured my attention and kept me listening out for that obscure dub or reggae track. But it was the presenting style and music knowledge of David "Ram-Jam" Rogan's Capital Radio show that sealed my fate and career in radio.

A gospel awakening
A Christian since the late '90s, I fell in love with gospel music with the help of groups like Commission, Virtue, Greg O'Quin, The Winans and Kirk Franklin. I was a member of the Gospel Announcers Guild (GAG) and the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA). As a presenter I'm known for quality, cutting-edge music and a vast amount of "A" list interviews conducted over the years with artists from the USA, the UK, Africa and the Caribbean.
